There seems to be a spate of 'Beatles Influences' themed Cd's over the last few years including the 'Roots of' & the 'Beginnings of' series.
The formula is to select a few tracks that the Beatles covered and even more tracks by artists that they didn't cover but who 'influenced' the Beatles.
(Beatles influence the late great Buddy Holly)
'The Influences Behind The Beatles' Cd release from Hoodoo Records follows in the same vein, for example it contans the original versions of Words of Love' Buddy Holly & the Crickets, 'Money (That's What I Want)' Barrett Strong, 'Bad Boy' Larry Williams and 'Matchbox' by Carl Perkins lined up alongside artists such as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Elvis Presley & Little Richard who's music obviously did influence the Beatles but the tracks selected don't really have a lot to do with the Beatles reportoire.
This type of compilation is great fun but could also be filed under 'Beatles cash in'.
Wait for the bargain bin.
